What’s Involved

Whichever approach will be taken the procedure will involve making an incision, usually horizontally on the lower stomach, and of varying length. Excess skin and fat is then trimmed before the wound is closed. The outcome of a tummy tuck can restore the definition and contouring of the stomach, and in some cases can also strengthen the internal muscles.

Incisions are usually made with discretion in mind, so that they can easily be hidden by clothing. If a full abdominoplasty is being carried out it is often the case that the belly button may also need to be repositioned.

Treatment Duration

Abdominoplasty can take up to 3.5 hours to complete. Our surgeons devise a personalised treatment plan at the initial consultation which ensures the surgery is tailored to meet your needs. Each procedure is approached with your best interests at heart.

Type Of Anaesthesia

Due to the nature of surgery, and the techniques involved, the abdominoplasty is carried out under general anaesthetic. Our practice specialises in day-case procedures, and due to advances in surgery, the time you’ll need to spend in our care may be reduced.

Aftercare Requirements

The full outcome of a tummy tuck may take several weeks to become evident. Although many patients find they can return to work within 1 or 2 weeks, you may find it necessary to take it easy for up to 6 weeks after the surgery. A compression garment is often required, and your surgeon will advise how long it needs to be worn for.

Back To Work (Recovery)

You can expect to make a full recovery in around 4-6 weeks. After this time you will have healed significantly and will find it much more comfortable when carrying out your usual daily tasks. Our aftercare plan will help you to heal more effectively and you may find you can return to work within 4 weeks (job dependent).
